Just a Reminder…

In times of turmoil, it is important to find moments of normalcy and joy.  The Life Enrichment Center is here for you.   Whether it is a hurricane, medical issues, family issues, or just life that is the source of chaos and stress, the LEC can provide a calming breath.

Take a class or workshop, hang out during a potluck, or just stop by to look at the beautiful art hanging on the walls.  If you can’t take a class, remember that members can check books out from the LEC library.  Think of the books as portable, personal classes.

Remember, it’s okay to reach out if you need assistance with anything.  The resources of a community like the LEC can be boundless, but you never know what is available until you ask.

LEC Birthday Bash 2024:  Saturday, November 9 (10am – 2pm)

You are cordially invited to the Life Enrichment Center’s 44^th Birthday Bash on Saturday, November 9 from 10 am to 2 pm here at the LEC. Bring friends, your grandchildren, your significant other, or other guests.  We will have LEC members selling their books, jewelry, artifacts (like quilts), and art. There will be finger foods and nonalcoholic drinks.

This is our only fundraising event of the year–a basket raffle to raise money for the LEC.  So purchase tickets for the raffle, and join the fun on Saturday, November 9. We’d love to see you!

Classes and Workshops

• Paint Florida fall foliage using pastels during the Pastels Workshop with Janice on Saturday, October 12 from 10am to noon.  Try a new medium or practice your skills.  No experience necessary.  Supplies will be provided, or you can bring your own soft pastels. • Autumn is the inspiration for the in-person only Watercolor Techniques Workshop with Lionel Sanchez on Saturday, October 19 from 10am to 1pm.   This is a great opportunity for beginners and advanced watercolorists. Supplies will be provided, or you can bring your own watercolors. • EXTENDED through October 31! The Poetry with Mish class meets Thursdays from 10am to 12pm.  A different form of poetry is explored each week.  Join the class in person or online and discover your inner poet.

• Bridge is making a move! Starting October 15, the Bridge class will move to TUESDAYS (and Fridays) 1-3pm. The final Monday Bridge class will be on October 7 from 1 – 3pm.

• Paper is not just a canvas; it can also be a medium. Explore this versatile medium during the October 7 & 14 Mixed Media Collage class and the October 21 & 28 Cardmaking Classes are Mondays from 10am to noon. November/December topics in this series include Printmaking, Journaling, and Gel Prints.  All supplies are included for each class. Participants are expected to sign up for both classes in a topic, but they do not have to sign up for every topic.  Email info@lectampa.org, call 813-932-0241, sign up online at lectampa.org, or sign up in person.

• There will be NO Tai Chi class on Tuesday, October 15. Class will resume on October 22.

Club News

• The next Photo Club Zoom meeting will be Wednesday, October 16 from 1:30 to 3 pm.

• The Book Club is no longer accepting new members. If you are interested in being a part of a new book club, email or call the LEC.

Mark your calendars!

• The 2024 ThanksGibbons Feast will take place Wednesday, November 20 from 11:30am to 1pm. The sign-up sheet for side dishes/desserts and $3 turkey contributions is on the Resource table.  You may also call or email to sign up.

• The Photo Club will photograph the unveiling of the fifteen new mermaid statues at Weeki Wachee on Saturday, November 23 at 11:30am.  Attend a Photo Club Zoom meeting to learn more.

• The Florida State Fair is just around the corner, and applications and fees will be due to the LEC by Tuesday, November 27^th. Start thinking about what art pieces you want to include in the Fair.

Other LEC news…

• The LEC didn’t win Creative Loafing’sBest of the Bay but we made the finals – thanks to you. Yes, thank you to all who voted for us.

• In the LEC Gallery – October Artists of the Month are Terry Eisenberg and Betty Hagan. Come see their fantastic art.

• The Life Enrighment Center was very fortunate during the recent storm. Unfortunately, other venues in the area have been forced to postpone or cancel special events, gatherings, meetings, etc., due to the damage they sustained. If you are in a pinch and searching for a backup venue, we might be able to help.  Please reach out to us at (813) 932-0241 or email our facilities manager at jennifer@lectampa.org with specific details so we can assist you as quickly as possible with options.

• The LEC calendars for October and November are now posted on the LEC hallway bulletin board.  There is also a Halloween party invite, information from the Arts Council about various opportunities, and Hillsborough County’s Senior Outdoor Active Recreation schedule of events.

• The LEC still needs volunteers for every other Tuesday morning, every other Wednesday afternoon, and every other Friday.  Volunteers work 2-hour shifts and are responsible for checking emails, light organizational projects, answering phones, etc. Please call or drop us an email if you are interested in volunteering.
