February Potluck

  • Our February Potluck will be Wednesday, February 5 from 12 – 1 pm. The guest speaker will be Jay Coachman.  You may have seen his art on display throughout Tampa.  He was voted The Best of the Bay: Best Visual Artist and Art Curator  and is the Art Director for Factory on Fifth in Ybor City. He will be discussing his art and the upcoming 3rd annual Black Arts Gala.

Upcoming Classes and Workshops

  • WEDNESDAY MAH JONGG: TIME SHIFT on FEBRUARY 5 Intermediate/Advanced Open Play Mah Jongg will be from 1:30-4pm on Wednesday February 5 ONLY
  • INTRO TO MAH JONGG: Starts Monday, February 3 from 1-3:30pm.  This 8-week class with instructor Alice Webb will teach you the basics including strategy.  By the time you finish the class, you will be able to play with confidence.
  • SHOW YOUR LOVE: Cathy Stump will conduct a Valentine-making Workshop on Saturday, February 8 from 10am – 12pm.  Register online at lectampa.org,  email info@lectampa.org, call (813) 932-0241, or sign up in person.
  • WATERCOLORS with LIONEL: Lionel Sanchez will be at the LEC to lead a Watercolor Workshop on Saturday,February 22 from 10am – 1 pm. This is an in-person only workshop.  Spaces are limited, and there will be NO walk-ins for this workshop.  Payment must be received by Friday, February 14 to reserve your seat.   • CREATE IN 3-D: Brenda Raj will offer a 4-week Air-dry Clay Sculpture class on Thursday mornings (10am-12pm) starting March 13.  Participants need to attend all classes to be able to complete the project. If interested, email info@lectampa.org, call (813) 932-0241, or sign up in person.

Club News

  • BOOK CLUB 2.0 is here! The new Book Club will meet in person on Monday, February 24 from 10am – 12pm in the LEC Library to discuss the book The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. Register online at lectampa.org, email info@lectampa.org, call (813) 932-0241, or sign up in person.
  • PHOTO CLUB OUTING: The Photo Club will meet at Eureka Springs on Wednesday, February 5 at 10:30 am.  The park’s pair of eagles are on the nest again this year. The nest is in a restricted area but the LEC Photo Club has been given permission to enter the Rangers-only section to photograph the pair and their nest.  Park admission is $2 per vehicle. There is an automated pay station in the parking lot that takes $1 bills or credit card.

Other LEC News

  • PLEIN AIR GROUP: Interested in taking your art outdoors?  A small group of LEC artists would love for you to join them for plein air art (Free!).  They will meet at Al Lopez Park on February 13 and February 27 (weather permitting).  Any medium welcome.  Bring all your own supplies. Times and meeting location within the park will be posted in the LEC Weekly. Email info@lectampa.org or call (813) 932-0241 if you have questions or would like to join the group.
  • DONATIONS NEEDED: Small bottles of water, Lysol wipes
